Red Rascal is Hacksaw Gaming's May 2026 release, a dark carnival slot where a horned troublemaker has taken over the funhouse and the only sane response is to spin the reels and see what burns. The art style draws instant comparisons to Cuphead: rubber hose animation, wobbly limbs, jaunty accordion music, evil clowns everywhere. It is one of the best-looking Hacksaw slots in a while.

The Theme
Red Rascal's funhouse is a proper Hacksaw production. Twisted carnival mirrors, flickering bulbs, sinister clowns lurking in the shadows, and the rascal himself, a horned devil in a jester hat, standing beside the grid looking smug. The pay symbols are card royals at the low end, with bottles, goats, books, an eye in a triangle, and triple 6s in flames as the premiums. The accordion soundtrack bounces cheerfully against the creeping dread of everything else.
If you have played Hacksaw slots before, the visual language is familiar but Red Rascal is one of the most polished executions of it. Even players who find the Hacksaw style a bit garish tend to admit this one looks good.
How the Base Game Works
5x5 grid, 19 fixed paylines, wins pay left to right. The top regular symbol (triple 6s in flames) pays up to 10x for five of a kind. Five wilds pay 20x. The base paytable is modest, Red Rascal is not a slot you play for regular line wins. You are waiting for the Rascals.
Rascal Respins
When three or more Rascal symbols land on the same spin, they stick to the grid and Rascal Respins begin. During the respin sequence, only Rascal symbols and dead symbols can land. Each new Rascal that lands also sticks. Respins continue until either no new Rascal lands or the grid fills completely.
As Rascals accumulate, adjacent groups can merge into Colossal symbols. Groups of 2x2, 3x3, 4x4, or 5x5 Rascals form Colossal Rascals. A full 5x5 Colossal Rascal covering the entire grid triggers the 15,000x max win instantly.
The Pendulum
This is where Red Rascal gets its personality. A Pendulum swings back and forth outside the grid throughout the entire respin sequence, alternating between Coin Mode and Wild Mode with every respin. When the respins end, the mode the Pendulum has settled on activates.
Coin Mode: All Rascal and Colossal Rascal symbols transform into Coins. Regular coins are worth 0.20x to 500x the bet. Colossal Coins come with an additional multiplier of 2x to 100x applied to the coin's base value.
Wild Mode: All Rascal and Colossal Rascal symbols transform into sticky wilds and stay fixed on the reels. An extra regular spin then fires with those wilds locked in place. Colossal Wilds carry random multipliers of 2x to 100x that apply to any wins they contribute to.
Neither mode is inherently better than the other, both have the same theoretical ceiling. The tension comes from watching the Pendulum during long respin sequences and not knowing which outcome you are going to get until the very last respin ends. It is a simple mechanic but it works remarkably well in practice.
Three Free Spins Modes
Red Rascal has three bonus game tiers triggered by FS scatter symbols. Each tier has its own name, its own rules, and its own ceiling.
Ready to Riot (3 Scatters)
Eight free spins with a higher chance of Rascal symbols landing naturally. The base game mechanics apply throughout. Rascal Respins can trigger in the normal way and the Pendulum resolves as usual at the end of each respin sequence. The simplest of the three modes, but the increased Rascal frequency gives every spin more potential than the standard base game.
Landing two extra scatters during any bonus mode awards two more spins. Three extra scatters add four spins.
After Dark (4 Scatters)
Ten free spins with everything from Ready to Riot plus the Popcorn Bucket. Throughout the feature, any Rascal symbols that land but do not reach the three-symbol trigger for a full Rascal Respin are saved in the Popcorn Bucket instead of disappearing. On the very last free spin, all stored Rascals, up to a maximum of 25, are added to the grid at once.
That final spin with 25 Rascals dumped onto the grid is the big moment After Dark is built around. It guarantees a massive Rascal Respin setup on the last spin, giving you one final shot at Colossal Rascals and a strong Pendulum resolution at the end.
Ignite the Night (5 Scatters, Hidden Epic Bonus)
Ten free spins where every single spin guarantees at least four Rascal symbols. This is the hidden epic bonus, it cannot be purchased through the Feature Buy system. The only way in is landing five scatters naturally.
The Pendulum works differently here. Rather than swinging through a respin sequence and resolving at the end, it activates and resolves on every spin independently. No respin sequences, instead, you get rapid-fire Coin or Wild mode results on each of the ten spins. With four Rascals guaranteed per spin and the Pendulum resolving every time, the pace is intense and the potential is the highest in Red Rascal.
Feature Buy Options
Five ways to skip the base game and get straight to the action:
| Option | Cost | What You Get |
|---|---|---|
| BonusHunt FeatureSpins | 5x stake | 10x more likely to trigger a free spins bonus |
| Fiery FeatureSpins | 25x stake | At least 3 Rascal symbols guaranteed per spin |
| Frenzied Epic Drop | 100x stake | At least 10 Rascal symbols guaranteed per spin |
| Ready to Riot | 80x stake | Direct access to the Ready to Riot bonus |
| After Dark | 200x stake | Direct access to the After Dark bonus |
At €0.10 minimum the cheapest option costs €0.50 and After Dark costs €20. The Frenzied Epic Drop at 100x (€10 at minimum bet) is particularly interesting, 10 Rascal symbols guaranteed per spin means Rascal Respins fire on almost every spin, and the Pendulum is constantly active throughout. Ignite the Night cannot be purchased. If you want the hidden epic bonus, you have to earn it.
RTP and Volatility
Four RTP settings: 96.34%, 94.29%, 92.26%, and 86.35%. The spread here is extreme. The top setting at 96.34% is fair for a high-volatility game. The bottom setting at 86.35% is genuinely punishing. Always check the in-game information panel to confirm which version your casino runs before spending any real money on Red Rascal.
Volatility is 4/5 (high). The base game runs dry between Rascal triggers, regular payline wins are small and infrequent. The value concentrates in Rascal Respin sequences, particularly ones where Colossal symbols form and the Pendulum resolves on a strong coin or wild outcome. Session management matters here.
Max Win
15,000x your bet. At €0.10 that is €1,500. At €50 max bet it reaches €750,000.
The instant path to 15,000x is a 5x5 Colossal Rascal filling the entire grid. The probability is very low in normal play but theoretically immediate, it ends the round and pays out 15,000x regardless of which Pendulum mode is active. The normal path involves a long Rascal Respin chain building Colossal symbols, the Pendulum landing on Coin Mode with a maximum-value Gold Coin on a large Colossal symbol and a high multiplier, or Wild Mode filling the grid with Colossal Wilds carrying the maximum 100x multiplier contributing to every available payline.
Our Verdict
Red Rascal is one of the better Hacksaw Gaming releases of 2026. The Pendulum mechanic sounds simple but creates genuine suspense every time a Rascal Respin fires, watching it swing and not knowing whether you are getting coins or wilds until the last respin ends is the kind of tension most slot features cannot replicate.
The three bonus tiers are well designed with real mechanical differences between them, not just spin count changes. After Dark's Popcorn Bucket delivering a final-spin mass Rascal drop is creative. Ignite the Night being hidden behind a natural five-scatter trigger rather than a buy option makes it feel like a genuine reward for patience.
The RTP spread from 96.34% to 86.35% is the main concern. Check your casino's version first. On the top setting Red Rascal is a strong high-volatility slot. On the bottom setting the math is stacked heavily against you.
Art, atmosphere, a mechanic worth thinking about, and a hidden bonus you actually have to earn. Red Rascal is worth your time on the right RTP setting.
